Facebook is Killing My Blog

I am probably not alone in this, but it’s true.

Why write out a five hundred word blog post about the wisdom behind using the word “pants” around your toddler instead of “britches” when I can just throw out a witty line or two in my FB status update? I mean, instantly it’s on more than one hundred friends computer screens, yielding multiple comments and endless whimsical banter…it’s just too easy.

Some people use their Facebook page as bait to get people to their blogs, but I have succumbed to just tossing out my little quippy minnows and nothing more. Bad, writer, bad. Lazy, tired writer, too, but that’s no excuse.

So, from here on out, I will put on my comfy writing britches pants, and try to pound out a blog post more often than quarterly, as well as post some of my stories for Friday Fiction.

Sleep is overrated anyway.

  1. I know what you mean, Chely. I do the little funny one-liners over on FB, but then when I blog something worthwhile, I link it to my FB page and it definitely increases blog traffic.

Quick question for you - have you stumbled across the Mom Bloggers Club, a community of thousands of bloggers, or anything similar? The apparent rule of etiquette is 'if I follow yours, then you should follow mine.' Frankly, there's a lot out there that's just c*** and I don't have time. Just because someone has clicked your 'follow' button, does this mean they'll actually follow? Is it worth the time (you can easily spend 24 hours just checking out blogs).

I'd like to know what you think about this. I don't want to spend my time foolishly, but if it would increase real readership, well then.

  2. Smile...love your pictures and videos! What a joy! Treasure every moment while they're young...they grow up too fast.

  3. I love Facebook for that very reason—I can be quick and witty and put almost no effort into it.

  4. No one in this picture is wearing britches, but yes you do look tired.

I'm trying to post at least once a week now, too. Have something churnning in my mind right now, hope it is better than what is churnning in my tummy.

  5. I know what you mean. The time to write a post, and often with little response, yet I put a classic 'one liner' on FB and get a massive response.
eg, I wrote on FB when my wife got back from Japan:
I'm so glad my wife's back home, she adds so much humour to my life. She just asked, "Peter, can flies survive in the fridge?" Umm....
